METS organiser Amsterdam RAI is to organise the next ICOMIA World Marinas Conference (WMC) for the second year running. Hosted by HISWA, the Holland Marine Industry Association, the three-day event will be held from November 17-19 in the Amsterdam RAI during METS 2016.

WMC 2016 was originally due to be held in Rio de Janeiro. However, in January 2015 Brazil withdrew its invitation to host the conference due to the declining state of the Brazilian economy. The hosting was then re-awarded to HISWA and the RAI, whose original bid to host the 2016 event was unsuccessful.

The ICOMIA Marinas Group organises and presents the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference once every two years in different cities around the world. The RAI organised the last conference, WMC 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey, on behalf of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA).

“Having been impressed with the Amsterdam RAI’s ability to serve as a conference organiser in Istanbul last year, we are confident that the choice to now turn to Amsterdam RAI as both organiser and location for WMC 2016 is an excellent one,” says ICOMIA secretary general Tony Rice.

“Held from 17 to 19 November concurrently with the METS, and hand-in-hand with the METS Marina and Yard Exhibition, the symmetry of these events is certain to prove extremely beneficial to all attendees and exhibitors.”

Established in 1932 as a boat show organiser, HISWA is today responsible for the HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show and the HISWA On-Water Boat Show. The group has around 1,000 member companies.

The ICOMIA World Marinas Conference is aimed at marina owners, operators, developers, consultants, service providers, government officials, equipment manufacturers, nautical tourism promoters, and port and harbour operators.
