The marina will be able to accommodate yachts from 7m-70m (23ft-230ft) within its main basin. There will also be 270m (887ft) of alongside superyacht berthing outside of the seawall that can accommodate the largest yachts afloat. David Robinson reports.
The global launch of the €630m Portonovi Resort in Montenegro, which includes a 220-berth marina as a central feature, has been held in London. The marina was designed by Gosport, UK-based Marina Projects.

Jeff Houlgrave, senior associate of Marina Projects, comments: “Portonovi is an integrated resort that will include the first One&Only hotel in Europe, a Henri Chenot spa and wellness centre and a beach club, together with villas and apartments. The waterfront wrapping around the marina is designed to create a local harbour feel with cafes and restaurants overlooking the stunning scenery across the Bay of Kotor.”
A unique initiative by Marina Projects has led to what will become the first yacht club designed by Andrew Winch.
“In terms of the new standards of infrastructure, it is too early to say anything,” Houlgrave adds. “Work on the marina is well advanced with, for instance, all the piling completed. Management of the marina will be in the hands of the Portonovi Resort Management Company, supported by Marina Projects.”
Winch Design has been appointed by Azmont Investments to design an iconic yacht club as the centre piece of the resort on reclaimed land. The 2,000sq m space will serve as the headquarters of the yacht club and will be built on a platform coming out of the water. The building will also be eco-aware with pipelines sunk into the adjacent sea to provide heating/chilling for the air-conditioning systems.

Simon Tomlinson, head of Architecture and Interiors at Winch Design, says: “This is one of the most exciting projects we have ever been commissioned to create, as it will be a landmark building in every sense of the word. The external architecture will serve as a real talking point, whilst the interior will be a timeless design of the highest specification.”
Portonovi is located across the bay from Porto Montenegro marina. It is also one of three new or upgraded marina projects underway in Montenegro. Collectively with Porto Montenegro they will significantly increase the country’s yacht berthing capacity.
