Omani marina operator Orascom Marine Management has extended its marina development facilities in the Middle East with two recently opened projects in Oman.
A new marina facility in Jebel Sifah on the east coast of Oman soft opened in March 2012 and is now fully operational, while the latest marina facility at Salalah in the south is scheduled to fully open in 2015.
The Hajjar Mountains provide a backdrop for the Jebel Sifah marina situated 40km south of the capital Muscat, which presently provides berthing for 25 boats on pontoons supplied by SF Marina, but has the capacity to be extended to accommodate 94 boats. An additional 31 berths are available for superyachts over 24m and a dry storage facility accommodating 120 boats up to 16m. The marina’s 60m-long slipway is also available for boat launching.
The Jebel Sifah resort has many of the features of the company’s flagship destination El Gouna on the Red Sea.
Marko Randjelovic, marina manager at Jebel Sifa and Salalah, told SB during a recent marina visit: “Our company is keen to attract the international boating community to Jebel Sifah and we see our facility as perfectly positioned between the Al Bandar Marina in Muscat and our new facility in the south of Oman at Salalah. Alongside the beauty of the Omani coast with its secluded and picturesque coves, these waters offer the boat owner ideal cruising and fishing and visitors can reach the resort by road or sea.”
The marina lies at the heart of the resort, which presently has 159 apartments, 60 villas and 44 retail units. An additional marina and more accommodation are planned for the next stage of the resort’s development.
The company’s leisure marina at Salalah on the south coast of Oman is destined to become another popular boating facility. Its temperate climate and tropical landscape offers a haven from the searing heat of summer temperatures and attracts visitors from around the Gulf region. As per design, the marina has 170 berths and dry storage for 100 boats. While Salalah has a dockmaster and boats are welcome to visit, the facility will not be fully operational until 2015.
Orascom Marina Management is part of Muriya Tourism Development, a joint venture between Egypt’s Orascom Hotels & Development, and Omran, a Sultanate of the Oman government-owned company. Muriya has four projects in Oman – Jebel Sifah & Salalah Beach, both integrated tourism complexes including marinas and residential areas, City Walk in Muscat and an exclusive eco-lodge on Sodah Island off the south coast of Oman.
