Amels has recently revealed its next phase for growth is to move into the fully custom sector. Alongside its Limited Editions range and successful Refit Division, the Dutch shipyard will now build one-off creations in the 80 to 110 metre segment.
The company has observed the recent market shift towards larger yachts and, having proven its capability with the 83-metre project it is currently building, feels confident in building larger. The decision also came as a reaction to clients’ requests for larger projects.
Despite having a full order book and nine yachts under construction, Amels feels that its smooth production processes and support from parent group Damen will enable it to make the step up to larger builds with relative ease. A newly commissioned modern climate-controlled 200-metre dry dock will cater for the growing builds and access to the neighbouring Damen facilities will also provide extra scope and support.
Amels MD Rob Luijendijk comments, “The difference with our Amels Full Custom offer is that, in the 80 to 110-metre segment, we’re really talking about a quite small market for very high value, one-off creations. So I think the two offers have a slight crossover around the 80-metre mark, and from there its all Amels Full Custom. Our clients can decide for themselves which offer best suits them.”
