Fraser Yachts has shown its strength with the sale of five superyachts in 10 days. Of more significance is the fact that its run of sales was achieved in the summer, which is traditionally a quieter period for sales.
The burst of activity at this time of year may also indicate a strengthening of the market. Frasers’ global marketing manager, Lisa Peck, told SB: “We have actually done some analysis of sales between the first six months of each year.” The number of sales in the first six months for 2014 compared with 2013 is as follows:
2013 = 170
2014 = 220
In terms superyacht size ranges, Peck commented: “All of the size ranges have had higher yacht sales, except for the 70m-plus (230ft-plus) where it was three yachts for each year. Most categories have increased by 20-30%, in line with the overall increase in the total yachts sold (29%). However, the larger end (50m-plus) has seen a much higher increase, of 75% in the 50m-60m category and 80% in the 60m-70m category, but of course we are dealing in much smaller numbers overall.
“In terms of the markets where they were sold,” she commented, “I’m afraid this is not tracked publicly so I can only tell you from our experience, which is that both years seem to be fairly evenly spread between both Europe and America. Since 2013 we have noted that the American market has been recovering well. This is particularly shown in the latter half of 2013, which we’re not currently comparing.”
The five yachts sold by Fraser were the 26m (85ft) Elena B from Cantieri del Pisa; the 35m (115ft) Benetti Paradigm sold through San Diego; a 38m (125ft) Sunseeker sold through Monaco, a 49m (144ft) new build from Crescent Yachts in Canada and the 59m (194ft) classic motoryacht Capella C, also sold through Monaco.
“This is clearly excellent news, not just for us but for the industry as a whole,” said Fabio Ermetto, chairman of Fraser Yachts. “There are a number of economic concerns at the moment but our brokers are continuing to work hard and close deals. What is especially important for us is that these sales are taking place all over the world and for all different types and sizes of yachts.”
