The new London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show (LYJAPCS), held in the UK capital over three days last week, has good prospects for the future. The general view of exhibitors spoken to by SB was that it had been a good show and that enough had been done to warrant it being held again with several saying they would return. As far as is known, little actual business was actually done but that is not uncommon, especially for a new show.
Peter Bryant, the LYJAPCS organiser, told SB: “We are very pleased with the event and we have booked slots for the next two years but we are also looking at other potential venues. We had several companies that wanted to come but who were too late in booking. We do have additional areas within Old Billingsgate for next year.”
The event attracted many leading superyacht builders including Lürssen, Blohm + Voss, Nobiskrug, Princess, Sunseeker, Sunrise, Azimut-Benetti, Holland Jachtbouw and Ferretti to name a few, as well as leading brokers like Burgess, Fraser and CNI. Edmiston are known to have wanted to exhibit but left it too late to do so.
There was a wide consensus of opinion among the exhibitors that SB spoke with that London was both the right place and very much deserved to have a show of this type. For the yacht companies most, if not all, have both a number of clients and dealings in London, be it with brokers, designers, builders, financial, legal or other businesses.
They report generally that they had seen a number of their clients but also new potential customers. One exhibitor commented that: “It is much more of a B2B show than a B2C event.”
There was some suggestion that the event should perhaps be a week earlier.
In terms of visitors, prior to the show the organisers told SB that they were hoping for 5,000 and nearly 4,000 came on the first day with some 5,000 on the second day.
As for known business done, Hardy Boats completed a deal on an 18.8m (62ft) yacht that they had been working on for six months. Pendennis and Inwards were just two of several exhibitors who had good show with quality enquiries and contacts.
Max Whale, managing director of Princess Yacht Sales, told SB: “We are very pleased to be part of this new show and the three Princess yachts displayed as part of the on-water show in St Katharine’s. We are meeting people who are new to the brand, which is encouraging for the future.”
