Dutch yard Icon Yachts has won the contract to convert a 73m (240 ft) icebreaking ship, Legend (ex Giant), into an explorer yacht. The bespoke conversion project will be undertaken with Diana Yacht Design contributing the design for the transformation.
The fully classified Class 1 icebreaking ship will be converted into a charter yacht, capable of carrying 30 guests, without losing her safety and strength as an icebreaker. The vessel was originally built to the highest specifications by the IHC Holland shipyard.
Alongside the completion of the technical and system upgrades extensive modifications to the yacht’s exterior will be made. The stern will be extended by 3.6 metres and will be equipped with a swim platform and a swimming pool. The helicopter landing pad will be commercially certified and a submarine will be stored in a garage on the forward deck.
The project is being managed by Verkerk Yachting Projects, the design and the engineering is performed by Diana Yacht Design and she will be fully Lloyds certified. (Solas passenger yacht 30 pax ). Legend will be used for adventurous charters in the remote areas of the world, such as Antarctica, Greenland and the North Pole.
