With Hainan (and in particular the Sanya area) fast emerging as one of China’s key yachting business and marine leisure regions, plans for developing marina infrastructure are gathering pace.
The municipal authority for the Hainan Province capital Haikou has announced that it plans to construct 16 public marinas by 2030. The number of berths being forecast is 3,500. Haikou is keen to follow in Sanya’s path to become a yachting tourism centre as well as expanding its tourism sector through boating.
The new plan extends across three parts of the city – namely, the Changliu District, Haikou Urban District and Jiangdong District. In addition there is a key river location at the Nandu River and also one within the Xiuying Port in Haikou Bay.
