The ownership of the St. Barth’s & Newport Bucket Regattas, which started in 1986, has been taken over by four long-term supporters. At a drinks party at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Perini Navi, Royal Huisman, Vitters and Rybovich announced their stewardship of the events emphasising their intention to maintain the “Spirit of the Bucket”.Wishing to keep the regattas an event “for yacht owners, by the industry” the new conglomerate will maintain the events’ sense of easy camaraderie and wholesome fun, discouraging purely business motivated networking.
The core group of loyal and current Bucket sponsors have warmly welcomed this initiative of this partnership, as have past entrants. With Peter Craig pledging continued involvement and support as event director and race chairman, both the sponsors’ and the participants’ valued long-term support are secure in the knowledge that the “Spirit of the Bucket” will live on.
The new owners have issued the following statement: “As the new custodians of the St. Barths and Newport Bucket Regattas, we cannot emphasise enough that our sole objective in taking this initiative is to ensure that the special character of the Bucket is preserved for owners, their guests and crew, now and well into the future. The Buckets will continue to be an opportunity for great racing in great venues, where socialising and networking, rather than sales and marketing, will set the tone for the industry professionals who participate. Furthermore, wherever practical, owners’ aspirations, ideas and concerns will be at the very heart of decision-making regarding any changes to the format, organisation and evolution of Bucket Regattas over the years to come.”
Peter Craig comments “It has been a pleasure managing these renowned events on behalf of the Bucket directors these past four years. I am honoured that the new stewards of the event have expressed their confidence in my team at Premiere Racing. The Bucket Regattas are in a good place based on feedback from yacht owners and we are fully committed to the goals and objectives of the new ownership group.”
