Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS) in the UK has signed a contract with Yachting Developments in New Zealand to supply technically advanced thrusters for hull 1012 currently in build at its shipyard in Auckland. OYS will design, engineer and manufacture two hydraulic 48hp vertical retracting thrusters for this 33.5 project.
“We have a really good relationship with Yachting Developments Ltd, and we were delighted to hear they were building a new 33.5m design and that our equipment would be installed,” comments Mark Barwell sales director at Ocean Yacht Systems. “We last worked with the team in Auckland on the award winning Quintessential back in 2012-13, where we provided standing rigging & thrusters to the 30m catamaran,” he adds.
OYS’s retracting thruster design allows the unit to fully retract into the hull, leaving a completely fair hull with minimal drag. All hydraulic hoses and connectors are encased inside the unit and the hull so they are not subjected to the open water and the environment. The thruster has excellent torque from start up with high overall efficiency from such a compact design.
“We are pleased to be working with the team at OYS once again, having successfully collaborated with them in the past,” said Ian Cook, managing director of Yachting Developments. “Work on Hull 1012 is progressing well, and we look forward to seeing her in the water.”
Hull 1012 is due to be handed over to the owners in early 2016.
