Stockbridge Yacht Brokers has been formed by Toby Walker, formerly a sales director of Camper & Nicholsons International and managing director of Dubois Yachts.
Walker has recognised the need for a personal, tailored approach to yacht marketing and will focus on putting a client’s needs first, only represent a small number of yachting enthusiasts at any one time. The company is able to help owners with all aspects of the build from start to finish.
Speaking to SB Walker explained, “I thought now was the time to do something on my own. It’s going to be a little different from the large firm attitude – it will be very global, very international, but more focused on a personal rather than a corporate relationship.”
For the time being Walker is not concerned about rapid expansion and will only represent a small number of yachts, “I’m only going to take on a handful of clients at any one time. If a firm gets too big the client doesn’t get the attention, devotion and detail they deserve.” Talking about the size of the team he revealed, “It’s just me at the moment.” His clients are existing contacts he has previously worked with.
Walker told SB that his business plan is based on three specifics:
- Diverse media planning across several platforms
- A strong website and social media plan
- Good contacts in the property and art world
At the moment Walker is operating out of Hampshire, UK, but is looking for a London office. Later, as the business matures, he hopes to establish an office in New York City. “Part of the company’s heritage is linked to America” he explained, “It’s a market I know and I enjoy working in it.”
Adding that he had just returned from the Miami International Boat Show he told SB, “It was a good show with some nice boats on display but traffic was a bit slow. I think the problem was that a lot of North America was snowed in so clients who might have come from New York or Chicago were unable to make it.”
