A fire destroyed two new motoryachts and threatened to burn others at the Yacht Management marina in Fort Lauderdale. The fire set off a frantic effort by fire crews to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby yachts.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, a 75ft Azimut and 50ft Sunseeker were destroyed in the blaze. They were connected by rope to at least four other yachts.
Timothy Heiser, deputy of fire chief for Fort Lauderdale Rescue, said 45 fire fighters responded to the blaze. They also worked to contained fuel leaks. The Sunseeker carried 1,500 gallons of fuel. Floating booms were placed around the scene for containment.
The paper said there were no injuries, and no estimate of the value of the boats.
