Plans relating to three Chinese yacht shows, including two new ones, were given at different events at the Monaco Yacht Show. The two new events are 2015 Yachting Shanghai, due to be held July 7-12, 2015, and the SO! Hainan show scheduled for December 10-13, 2015 in Sanya.

The 2015 Yachting Shanghai event is being promoted as ‘The International Marine Expo’ and is set to highlight Shanghai’s involvement with the leisure marine sector. This new event is supported by the Shanghai Municipal Government and is being sponsored by the Expo Shanghai Group and a number of marine industry bodies.

The organisers are Shanghai Yuanzhou Cultural Communication Co Ltd in association with the Shanghai Major League Yacht Club. Held over a 150,000sq m area in the World Expo Exhibition Centre, it will be the largest yacht event in China.

To provide an on-water show, a marina facility is planned to be constructed by Emmanuelle Delarue, CEO of New Design Associates (NDA), the marine company helping to organise this. “We still have to decide how many yachts we will be able to accommodate and also the size of them,” Delarue told SB. “There are tide and depth issues where the marina will be located.”

A spokeswoman for Shanghai Yuanzhou, one of the co-organisers, told SB: “We hope to attract some 80 international exhibitors and we plan to launch a marketing campaign in October. Yachting Shanghai will have three themes of maritime culture, urban marine lifestyle and ocean art.”

As for SO! Hainan, a new event from the China Rendezvous Group led by Delphine Lignieres, it will be held at Yalong Bay Marina in Sanya. The marina has 100 berths up to 130m (427ft). Lignieres is the originator of the China Rendezvous exhibition launched in Sanya in 2010, in association with the Visun Group. At the 2014 event in March, Visun took on the organisation of the show on its own.

Lignieres told SB: “We already have a number of companies signed up for the event including NDA, Heesen and Airbus. More will be announced soon. This new event will see us returning to Hainan and it will follow on from the successful SO! Dalian event held in July.”

Information about the 2015 Hainan Rendezvous event was also forthcoming at Monaco. The theme of the event will be ‘Dreams, Art and Life’. The event will include a new Italian Pavilion, which will focus on that country’s abilities in design and quality luxury products including yachts.

After the 2014 event, which saw the number of exhibitors fall by some 50%, the organisers have a challenge to rebuild Hainan Rendezvous 2015. The reaction to the show last year from several of the leading international yacht builders was not that positive, down largely to what some perceived as a lack of actual buyers. That said business was done with a number of yachts, including two Sunreefs, being sold.
