Built around a series of catchy five-minute presentations, VriThink’s Night Out offers designers, naval architects and boatbuilders the chance to show their fresh and creative work, ideas or concepts. Mike Derrett reports.
Vripack, one of the leading boat and ship design companies in the Netherlands, held its annual design event at the Rode Hoed (Red Hat) in Amsterdam on the eve of the METSTRADE Show last week.
VriThink’s Night Out, powered by Pecha Kucha, was extremely popular with 250 attendees packing out the venue in central Amsterdam.
Godert van Hardenbroek of Edorado electric boats, one of the presenters, said: “What is interesting about this event is that Vripack are very open-minded about what is coming next in the industry and it’s a smart move to bring people together in this sort of event to think out-of-the-box for the future.”
Built around a series of catchy five-minute presentations, VriThink’s Night Out offers designers, naval architects and boatbuilders the chance to show their fresh and creative work, ideas or concepts. This could be a finished yacht, a new design, a trend or any idea related to the nautical world and design.
During the evening, 14 presenters showed 20 slides and discussed each slide in 20 seconds. The result – no more boring lectures or tiring presentations that carry on for too long.
Amongst the presentations that caught the eye of our correspondent were:
Edorado – Hydrofoil electric boat
Godert van Hardenbroek of Edorado presented the concept of an affordable, fast hydrofoil-supported electric boat with an excellent range that is in the prototype stage.
Ancon Marine Consultants – A new propeller concept
Instead of a propeller guard and cover, Ancon Marine Consultants has replaced the propeller edge with an 8mm rod, resulting in an innovative new solution with minimal reduction in engine performance that met with acclaim from the audience.
VriThink’s Night Out was held just days before the company picked up the Dometic-sponsored award for Innovation in a Production Process at the 2nd Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement, held in association with Raymarine.
Vripack was honoured for its ground breaking virtual prototyping software.
