Since announcing its deal with Ital Thai Marine (ITM) in April this year, Yacht Solutions has seen a steady increase in superyacht refit and repair work. Under a branding of Yacht Solutions at Ital Thai Marine (YSITM), the two companies are sharing a joint cooperation deal based at ITM’s large shipyard in Bangkok.

Yacht Solutions is Thailand’s leading yacht agency and related services company. A few years ago it started performing superyacht refit work based at Bangkok Dock Co’s 100m (328ft)-plus dry dock.

ITM is Thailand’s largest shipbuilder and the new deal has resulted in a dedicated superyacht refit, maintenance and repair facility, the likes of which is rare and definitely needed in Asia as more and more local HNWIs buy large yachts.

Within a short time after announcing the deal, the new venture has worked on the 45m (148ft) Big Fish over a three-week period; a 60m (197ft) Oceanco in for an extended refit lasting seven months; and the 42m (138ft) Douce France, the world’s largest catamaran sailing schooner, in for three months. A 45m (148ft) Benetti was also worked on over a three-week term, and in December a 40m (131ft) Benetti is scheduled in for a seven-month stay for a full refit.

In addition to all this, Gareth Twist, managing director of Yacht Solutions, told SB: “There are a number of various size and complexity refits being discussed for the next year.”

In the space of a few months, this new venture has become one of Asia’s leading superyacht refit yards, if not the front-runner. YSITM’s yard extends over 112,000sq m and can lift yachts up to 95m (312ft) and 3,500 tonnes. In addition, YSITM has access to two 115m (377ft) dry docks, a floating dock of 160m (525ft) with a 5,000-tonne lifting capacity, and 300m (984ft) of alongside berthing. All this makes YSITM the largest superyacht refit yard in Asia.

Twist, commenting on the new venture when it was first launched, said: “We have been in the marine refit and repair business in Thailand for over 10 years and we have been looking for a deep-water facility for the last two years. Yacht Solutions at Ital Thai Marine expands our superyacht capabilities for hauling-out and opens up a great yard option for any resident yachts and superyachts passing through the Gulf of Thailand. This facility is accessible to all of Southeast Asia, being less than 800 miles from Singapore. We are very excited with this partnership as it offers a natural progression for our business.”

On the yacht agency side, Twist told SB: “We have been handling more yachts and certainly the number of superyachts visiting the region is on the increase.”
