Albania, the only country down the eastern Adriatic coast without an active yachting sector, is increasingly being promoted as the next hot destination. Currently it has one marina at Orikum (500 berths) but a number of new projects are in various stages which, if completed, will significantly boost the country’s marine leisure facilities.
Camper & Nicholson Marinas (CNM) are currently working on a feasibility study for a new facility as part of a master waterfront plan for an unnamed town in the centre of the country. Dan Hughes, CNM’s business development director, who has recently returned from a visit to Albania told SB: “This is a firm project linked to a master waterfront plan but I cannot give the location at this time. We are preparing a feasibility and development plan which will include identifying the number of berths to be included. There will definitely be superyacht berths but I cannot say how large until the study is completed.”
The study is expected to take about three months and the value of the full resort project including the marina was said by Hughes to be in the order of
