Camper & Nicholson Marinas (CNM) is currently undertaking a consultancy at Yas Marina that could lead to the company taking on the management later this year.

CNM is working for the Abu Dhabi government, which bought the marina, yacht club and racetrack last year when the previous owner, Aldar Properties, faced financial difficulties.

Yas Marina and its surrounding facilities are a key part of Abu Dhabi’s declared strategy to make the Emirate a leading yachting destination. There are longer term plans for a new southern marina at Yas almost adjacent to the existing facility that would have 4,000 berths. At present there is no timing when work on the marina might start.

CNM already has experience in the Middle East, having previously been involved with Port Ghalib marina on Egypt’s Red Sea Coast, which recently moved to nearby Hurghada Marina. Following the recent political unrest, this marina is currently closed as the tourism industry has been hard hit.

In other areas CNM is understood by SBN to be undertaking a number of consultancy projects in China in addition to the marina it is developing at Sanya on the island of Hainan. SBN understands that a project in Tianjin has been signed and another is underway in Shenzhen province.
