Two US catamaran companies are moving ahead with plans to launch battery-powered electric multihulls. But the two firms are aiming at very different markets. One will sell its catamarans in the mid-range powerboat segment and the other in the sailing superyacht category.

Blue Planet Catamarans has recently launched a new 32ft catamaran that runs on 2.0R Torqeedo electric outboards. The manufacturer claims that the boat will have a range of 80 miles before the small outboards need to be recharged.
