The 2010 edition of the Royal Thames Mansura Trophy – an award recognising hybrid propulsion solutions in maritime applications – was officially launched in association with Bosch Engineering GmbH at Southampton International Boat Show today.

Vessels up to 122m (400ft) using at least two independent sources to deliver propulsive power may be entered for the trophy. The final drive system must be electrical.

Three separate classes of award are presented: Offshore and Coastal Craft, Inland Waters Craft, and Prototypes. The overall winner is presented with the Royal Thames Mansura Trophy.

To qualify for this year’s competition, the vessel must be in the water by December 31, 2010 and paperwork must be submitted by March 1, 2011. The winner will be announced in May 2011.

The Royal Thames Mansura Trophy in association with Bosch Engineering was launched in 2007. Previous winners include the French-built Lagoon 420 Hybrid sailing catamaran, and the UK’s Coniston Launches for its conversion of tourist launches from diesel to a solar-power and generator supported electric drive system.
