Knight & Carver YachtCenter in the US recently took delivery of its newly acquired dry dock ‘Diligence’, which arrived at the company’s refit and repair operations in San Diego, California last week.
The 4,000-tonne capacity dry dock made its way along San Diego Bay on the last day of June, guided by a small armada of tugboats and the San Diego Port Pilots. Diligence can accommodate vessels of up to 122m (400ft) in length and 19m (63ft) in height, making it the largest yacht-friendly dry dock on the US west coast.
“This is a huge milestone for our company, especially for all of our skilled marine craftsmen who patiently waited more than a year for this day to become a reality,” says Michael O’Leary, Knight & Carver’s president and CEO. “Now we’ll be able to attract, fully service and lift out the world’s largest and most luxurious megayachts, commercial vessels along with large government agency vessels.”
Full dry-dock operations are expected to begin on August 15.
