The former Dania Beach facility operated by Broward Marine has been upgraded as a superyacht refit facility linked to a $3m investment. The site closed last summer having been operating as a yacht building yard since 1948. The revival is down to Butch Risker a former employee now general manager. He has obtained some $3m in start-up capital to reshape the 10-acre yard as a full service repair, maintenance and refit facility.

The yard is currently working on six yachts and has some 25 forward booking for craft up to 164ft. Risker is quoted in a Sun-Sentinel report as saying: “We’ve a damn good reputation in the industry,” about the new management team. It also attracted comment from customers who were pleased to see Risker back and there is also the prospect of newbuild activity restarting depending on how the market picks up. Frank Herhol of the Marine Industries Association said: “It’s the only facility able to build large megayachts in Broward County so it’s important to have building there again.”
