Dirk de Jong has joined Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco as its new design projects and R&D manager.

De Jong previously served as Oceanco project manager from 1997-2001, where he oversaw construction of the 62.6m Lady Lola and the 95m Al Mirqab (now known as the Indian Empress). He joins the company from Platinum Yachts in Dubai, where he served as commercial and project development manager.

A naval architect with degrees in shipbuilding and business administration, de Jong has many years’ experience in the industry. Past roles include managing director and technical director at Amels Holland and site manager at Feadship.

In the last few years, de Jong ran his own company called Nereus where he was technical and environmental director for the Super Yacht Builders Association (SYBASS) and consultant on several megayacht build projects in the Netherlands and abroad.

Oceanco, which is based in Alblasserdam in the Netherlands, has been designing and building large custom yachts since 1990. Earlier this year, the company was acquired by Mohammed Al Barwani, a private investor based in the Sultanate of Oman.
