Thailand-based Yacht Solutions has started a superyacht division called Ruea Yachts. The company said in a statement it would be design and build yachts up to 85m (279ft) in Thailand.
Gareth and Simon Twist, who have run Yacht Solutions for 10 years, will manage Ruea Yachts. The statement said that the brothers have worked in superyacht cruising centres in the Mediterranean and Caribbean before relocating to Phuket.
“We are thrilled to add a superyacht new-construction division to our operations and believe our track record and expertise will attract business from the region,” said Gareth Twist in a statement. “Twinning European design with the flair of our team of Thai craftsmen and strong price point is a very enticing proposition to investors that can be found nowhere else in the region.”
Ruea Yachts will employ BMT Nigel Gee and Design Unlimited for the design of the yachts. Twist said the company will operate out of a shipyard in Phuket and another in Bangkok. The yards have 120 full-time workers with another 100 sub-contractors. The yachts will be built to Lloyds classification and MCA LY2 standards.
“Asia is a region that increasingly the focus of the marine industry globally, with a lot of interesting coming from Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand,” said Twist. “Most recently we have seen a real jump in interest from China and India.”
