Russian prosecutors have appealed against a decision by a French court to release two superyachts they claim are owned by Boris Berezovsky, a Russian tycoon currently wanted in Russia.
The two yachts were seized in February in Antibes by French authorities at the request of Russian prosecutors. Berezovsky has denied ownership.
Last week, a French court said there was no apparent link between Berezovsky and a Russian-owned, UK-based company called Shift Line Ltd. The court ordered the release of the yachts after Shift Line showed documents proving it had purchased them two years ago.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s office has appealed the decision to a higher court in France, asking it to reverse the decision. French newspaper, Le Parisien estimated that the value of seized yachts to be about US$20m.
