The UK’s Southampton Yacht Services (SYS) has completed a major rebuild of Sea Lion, a 21m (67ft) yawl built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 1953.
Following a major overhaul, the yacht now has new frames, new bronze floors and mahogany hull planking, a new deck and coach roof replicating the original, all new equipment and machinery, new brightwork and fittings, and entirely new interior joinery, electrics and plumbing.
“A new rig by Southern Spars and new Harken deck gear enhance sailing performance and make life a little easier on deck,” says the company. “With such an extensive rebuild, the opportunity was taken to add some innovative new features and update her systems, and to install additional equipment and services into the hull whilst preserving her classic appearance both inside and out.”
A subsidiary of the Oyster Group, Southampton Yacht Services is renowned for its refit and repair work on classic yachts and has completed major works on vessels such as Cambria, Altair, Thendara and the J Class Velsheda.
