Turkish superyacht builder Vicem has relocated its Newport RI sales and service office to a more central position in order to strengthen its marketing position. “We have enjoyed an upswing in walk-in traffic, thanks to the move” says Ted Gersen, the lead Newport-based broker for Vicem USA, the American arm of the Turkish builder.

The office is now located at 411 Thames Street at Brown & Howard’s Wharf and Michael Landsberg, Vicem USA’s president, describes the relocation “to Newport’s thriving downtown waterfront is an ideal move for us. We will be able to better serve our clientele from a more convenient location at the same facility where our yachts are in-water, while increasing our visibility and profile.”

Vicem has achieved a good sales performance in the USA particularly for the smaller boats below superyacht size. With the Turkish builder increasing its superyacht involvement by building a new line of Frank Mulder designed 35m (115ft) and 44m (145ft) motor yachts, there are hopes that sales of these may also be made in the USA. Currently positioned outside the new office is the new 22m (72ft) Classic Flybridge so people passing can easily obtain information about this and other Vicem designs. Apart from the new Mulder designs, Vicem offers a 26m (85ft) version of its Classic as well as 23m (75ft), 28m (92ft), 29m (95ft), 35m (115ft) and 38m (125ft) options with its Cruiser design of yacht.

Earlier this month a new agreement was announced involving Vicem, Trumpy Yachts and Alex Suarez, managing partner of Classic Yacht Partners to build a “dramatic” new 38m (125ft) Trumpy yacht. Vicem will build this and a sister for a new yacht equity programme that has been set up by Suarez, who is the new owner of Atlanta-based Classic Yacht Partners. Johan Trumpy said, “When we decided to re-launch our brand and business, we believed very strongly that thoughtful yachtsmen would respond to our products. Mr. Suarez has more than met that assumption. With his help, we have dramatically enhanced the 38m (125ft) Trumpy and will be building one of the most elegant yachts that I have ever been involved with”.
