Marine propulsion specialist ZF Marine has acquired HRP, a leading manufacturer of steerable thrusters based in the Netherlands, for an undisclosed sum. The company will now trade as ZF Marine HRP within the ZF Marine Group, a subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen in Germany.
HRP produces a wide range of steerable thrusters, including well-mounted thrusters, retractable thrusters, tunnel thrusters and controls in fixed pitch, CP and CRP versions. The company employs around 250 people, with production locations in the Netherlands and Indonesia, as well as sales and service locations worldwide.
“With the addition of the new ZF Marine HRP company, we are now able to offer competence in the field of steerable thruster technology,” says ZF Marine CEO Roland Heil. “We can swiftly apply HRP’s extensive propulsion know-how, for our future growth in the ‘commercial craft’ market segment.”
Most of the HRP’s workforce is located in Europe, with headquarters in Krimpen, Holland. The company also has offices and facilities in Asia, North America, South America and the Middle East. In 2008, the Asian market accounted for around 50 per cent of the group’s total turnover, followed by Europe at 30 per cent.
“This transaction has great strategic value as it will allow HRP to expand its current customer base,” says HRP managing directors Henk Terlouw and Jan Offerman. “ZF Marine will bring substantial additional resources for future growth in all of HRP’s product segments. There are many opportunities for incorporating HRP’s products successfully into the already broad range of ZF Marine products.”
Headquartered in Padova, Italy, ZF Marine manufactures and distributes marine transmissions, propellers, control systems, surface drives, POD drives and shaft brakes for all types of vessels. The company employs 1,200 people at 11 plants in seven countries, generating sales of
