French refit yard to use 3D and virtual reality software to showcase refit projects to clients.

Compositeworks has announced the integration of a new software suite to combine laser scanning with 3D pipe modelling to create a totally immersive experience for the user. The new technology would allow clients to appreciate the refit project like never before, the company claims.

With this technology the company is capable of scanning technical spaces with the accuracy and speed of laser scanning and then process these files with the latest automated 3D systems design software. A team of specialist at Compositeworks would then build full 3D models that can then be viewed in “real size” through the Oculus rift goggles.

Compositeworks has also revealed that its technical office has been working in partnership with the Wolfson research Unit in the UK on a hull modification study for a 50m motoryacht, which will result in a 25% increase in maximum speed and more than double the range.

Onboard trials were conducted in conjunction with advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling.

100m-plus refit project

The refit yard has also announced that a 100m-plus yacht has entered its dry dock in La Rochelle for a full hull fairing and topcoat job that will be completed in 10 weeks.

This is the first full project to be conducted in La Rochelle. Compositeworks says it is working together with the fairing and painting contractor Rolling Stock.
