RMK Marine, a custom superyacht builder based in Istanbul, has announced that construction of project XXL, a 55m explorer yacht, is underway. The yard has completed the construction of her steel hull and developed the engineering.

The yacht is built on speculation, however marketing manager Ali Tanir told SB that talks are underway with two prospective clients following the presentation of the project at the Monaco Yacht Show 2016.

Commenting on the project, yacht division director Ozgur Numan says: “The 55m XXL is an exceptional superyacht with design that emphasises all the great attributes of a contemporary explorer yacht. The robust lines are complemented by an efficient and highly seaworthy hull design, as well as vast interior and exterior spaces. This combination results in an extremely elegant explorer superyacht able to take the owners wherever they dream to cruise.”

RMK Marine has teamed up with Hot Lab for the design of this project. The two companies have collaborated on other superyachts projects in the past.

“The conversation about the 55m XXL really started back when Hot Lab Design and RMK Marine were working together on the RMK 5000 model. Many of the exciting and innovative features that we conceived then have been brought into this new concept. You can still see many of our signature details both from designer and yard, however, making an unmistakable mark,” says Enrico Lumini, founding partner of Hot Lab Design.

Lumini adds that a special attention has been paid to the interior space. The layout on the XXL model, he says, gives guests a feeling of being on a 70m superyacht rather than one of 55m.

In-house engineering

The 55m XXL incorporates more than 700sq m of guest areas including over 300sq m of exterior space. She will be able to carry 12 passengers, with a crew of up to 16.

This explorer yacht has also been designed with a fuel capacity and efficiency to provide a range of 6,000nm at a cruising speed of 12ks.

Naval architecture on the project was provided in-house by RMK Marine, and it has been specified with twin MTU 16V 2000 M93 engines, though this could be adapted based on the owner’s preferences

This is a four-deck explorer yacht. The owner’s cabin is located on the upper deck forward, with panoramic views over the yacht’s bow and sides, double walk-in closets and his and hers bathrooms.

The aft deck offers al fresco dining as well as a further lounging area and a bar with spectacular views to the aft of the yacht, flanked by on-deck storage for two jet skis. These can be tailored to the owner’s particular wishes for tenders and toys to be carried on board.

“We are very excited about this new 55m XXL model from RMK Marine and Hot Lab Design. With such a reduced delivery time, outstanding considerations of living space and robustly-built platform, the 55m XXL is sure to be a success,” concluded Numan.

In addition to this project, RMK Marine told SB that it is developing a 70m project. Further details of this yacht will be disclosed in due course.
