Palmer Johnson has plans to start construction on project PJ58 Open Sports yacht, a new 17.6m(58ft) vessel.
Russell Morris, Palmer Johnson director Europe, comments that the craft, a significant departure from the larger superyachts in its portfolio, has attracted a good amount of interest.
“We are hoping to start building in the near future,” he told SB. “We have done the tank testing and we are working on the engineering and other design aspects. We want to make sure we get it right.”
The PJ58 Open Sports yacht was quietly launched at the Singapore Yacht Show in April, but a few recent advertisements in a leading UK newspaper have indicated that the company was nearer to a fuller launch of the carbon composite yacht which will be powered by two Volvo IPS 600 or 800 engines. The 600 engines will give a speed of 34kt while the large 800 will produce a speed up to 40kt.
“We have had a number of owners of larger yachts looking to use the model as a tender,” Morris adds. “We are likely to build it in the US but it is a decision which still have to be confirmed.”
PJ has recently announced it had signed orders for a 170 SportYacht and 48Super Sport.
