Superyacht refit and repair yard Marina Barcelona 92 (MB’92) has been sold to D-Marin Investments Holding, a subsidiary of Turkey’s Doğuş Group.
MB’92 is one of the world’s largest maintenance facilities for yachts of up to 220m. Its footprint includes a land area of 76,000sq m and 40,000sq m of water surface in the Port of Barcelona.
D-Marin has taken a 70% stake in the business, investing €80m to develop the yard’s international presence in both the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic, as well as to fund internal projects.
A second shiplift with a capacity to haul out yachts of up to 4,000 tonnes (double its current capacity) will also be installed and is expected to be operational by 2017.
MB’92 began its first expansion phase in 2010, when the company acquired and renovated old facilities belonging to commercial shipyard Union Naval de Barcelona (UNB). A total of €35m was invested to complete and start running the new docking area between 2010 and 2012.
A statement says that MB’92’s current management team has retained a 30% interest in the business and will continue to control daily operations at the yard.
